The New Weis Center is excited to offer a Winter Break Day Camp at our beautiful Ringwood location in the Highlands region of northern NJ! The 152 acre property features a historic main building, covered pavilion, large recreation field, and a stream for nature programs and exploring.


Each day of incorporates a different theme, to enhance your child’s enjoyment and understanding of the winter world around them. Campers will love the exciting activities and hands-on learning experiences we have planned! Crafts and games will focus on nature, science and the environment, and will incorporate the natural surroundings. Part of each day will be spent outside - weather permitting.

​​CAMP STAFF & SAFETY

  • Our Staff of trained Counselors is led by our wonderful Camp Director and Lead Educator, Jill Burgy.
  • All Counselors are certified in First Aid and CPR/AED. Several staff are also Wilderness First Aid certified.
  • Our camp programs operate in compliance with all NJ Department of Health Youth Camp standards.
  • Low Counselor to Camper ratio provides a safe and attentive environment for all campers.
  • Counselors will customize the activities to suit all ages and abilities.


DAILY ACTIVITIES

Each day has a different theme! Daily activities include a walk in the woods (weather permitting) to observe and explore the winter habitat, plus indoor/outdoor winter activities, experiments and crafts. Depending on the weather, campers may also play board games, color, do yoga, and watch a nature video (i.e. Planet Earth/National Geographic).


Day 1:  Tuesday, December 26..... The Winter Forest

  • Exploring animal habitats; signs of life in the winter forest; where's the winter food?; winter camouflage; making edible garlands for winter wildlife

Day 2:  Wednesday, December 27..... Winter Weather, Winter Wonder!

  • Learn the 121 types of snowflakes; experiments with water, ice and snow; exploring weather phenomena and the shapes of nature; making origami snowflakes

Day 3:  Thursday, December 28..... Winter Survival

  • Packing a winter survival kit; fire safety and building a winter fire; songs by the campfire; explore nature's survival tools; creating a survival plan and map 

Day 4:  Friday, December 29..... Countdown to Summer!

  • ​Explore the changing signs of nature throughout the seasons, building 'snow castles'; luau dance party; making ice cream; countdown to summer calendar checklists,

  • Camp Hours: Tuesday - Friday, from 9:00am - 3:00pm
  • Enrollment:  Limited to 20 campers per session
  • Pre-care & After-care:  Requests will be considered on an individual basis, for an additional fee.

Register ONLINE!

Once we receive your online registration, we'll email an invoice with details about how to pay by mail or online by credit card.


Your confirmation email will also contain your parent handbook, a health form and photo release form. The handbook will contain the daily schedule, what to bring/wear list, directions for drop off and pick up, camp rules, and other useful information.

The forms must be completed and returned by Monday, December 18th. If you are a returning camper from our summer session, your confirmation will contain any previously submitted forms. We ask that you take the time to review the information and confirm that it is still up to  date.

Download the Registration Form, complete and return with your payment. Once registration and payment is received, you will receive an email confirmation with your parent handbook, health form and photo release form, which must be returned by Monday, December 18th.
