2021 Highlands Junior NaturalistProgram
NEW DATES! 1 Week Session - AUGUST 9-13
Monday-Wednesday & Friday: 9:00am-3:00pm; Thursday 3:00-9:00pm with an overnight campout Thursday-Friday at our group campsite
Ages 10-15
Our "Highlands Junior Naturalist" program is designed to guide tweens and teens on a deep dive into the local ecology.
Highlands Junior Naturalists is a summer STEM program for ages 10-15 that takes a dive into our local forest ecology here in the New Jersey Highlands. Our goal is to introduce young naturalists to learning about the environment through scientific field methods and hands-on exploration while being active and immersed in the forest.
This year, our program includes an overnight campout Thursday into Friday. We will have a cookout and campfire, learn about nocturnal organisms, and explore the forest after dark. Naturalists will also learn preparedness and camp skills to help prepare them for a lifetime of safely and confidently enjoying the outdoors.
Campout details:
Thursday camp will be 3:00pm-9:00pm, with an overnight campout into Friday. Thursday evening we will have a campfire cookout for dinner along with evening s'mores. On Friday, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Tents will be provided for those who do not have them. We will camp at our group campsite behind the main building. Further details about what to pack and what food will be served are to come!
